GOLD COAST AIRPORT

As the gateway to one of Australia’s premier tourist destinations, Gold Coast Airport (GCA) is the fifth busiest international airport in Australia. The largest of the QAL Group airports, Gold Coast Airport now welcomes in excess of 6.5 million passengers per year.

Cementing its status as a world-leader in low cost airport operations and facilities, GCA completed a $100 million terminal redevelopment in January 2010, aimed at delivering the best possible service to our low cost airlines and their passengers.

Domestically, GCA offers direct flights to Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Perth, Newcastle, Adelaide and Cairns. Direct international services include Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo and four ports in New Zealand (Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown).

Gold Coast Airport Milestones

Since QAL acquired Gold Coast Airport in 1998, the following significant milestones have been achieved:

Growth in annual passenger movements from 1.8 million in 1997 to 5.3 million in FY 11/12.
The only additional airport in Australia to be granted permanent international status during that period.
Moving from a ranking of the eighth busiest airport in Australia to number six, passing Canberra and Cairns during that time.
Extension of the main runway to 2500 metres in 2007 to facilitate operation of long haul international wide bodied aircraft services. The runway extension paved the way of direct international flights from Asia, the Middle East and India.
AirAsia X commenced international direct services between the Gold Coast and Kuala Lumpur in 2007.
Jetstar commenced direct international services between the Gold Coast and Tokyo and Osaka in 2008.
Scoot commenced direct international services between the Gold Coast and Singapore in 2012.
Working closely with the Queensland and Federal Governments to facilitate development of the Pacific Highway Tugun Bypass through airport land.
Officially opened the new $100 million passenger terminal redevelopment in January 2010 becoming Australia’s first purpose-built low cost carrier terminal.
Investment of $56 million in capital works programs (compared to a commitment to the Commonwealth at the time of the sale of $27 million)
Working closely with the Queensland and Federal Governments to facilitate development of the Pacific Highway Tugun Bypass through airport land.
Commitment of further investment of more than $100 million on the terminal upgrade project.
A comprehensive program of support to the community through sponsorship such as the Gold Coast Airport Marathon, Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards, Miami High Aviation Studies Program; Scenic Rim Tourism, Northern Rivers Symphony Orchestra, Currumbin Sanctuary Wildlife Hospital and Surf Life Saving’s tourist education program.
Gold Coast Airport welcomes in excess of 6 million passengers through the airport for the 2015 calendar year.
Hong Kong Airlines made their extended season of charter flights from Hong Kong to Gold Coast a permanent year-round service in 2016.
Gold Coast Airport achieved Level 1 ‘Mapping’ accreditation under the Airports Council International’s Airport Carbon Accreditation program in January 2017.
Gold Coast Airport welcomes more than 6.5 million passengers through the airport for the 2017 calendar year.
Gold Coast Airport facilitates busiest day in history on 7 January 2018, with 24,585 passengers arriving and departing to/from airport.
